How does Walk Mode work?

When you turn on Walk Mode, Sophie turns your phone screen bright red. When you walk in public, hold your phone in your hand with your screen facing out. This is to alert everyone that you’re using Sophie. Research has proven that when people know they are going to be caught, they are much less likely to commit crime.

 

With the Walk Mode on, if you feel unsafe just say your secret voice command. Sophie will turn on your camera and begin a 10-second countdown. If you accidentally activated Sophie, enter your PIN before the countdown expires and no emergency message will be sent.

 

If you need assistance, let the countdown expire. Sophie will send a text message to your emergency contacts, and if you have selected Alert All, Sophie will coordinate help for you. We will share your live location with the first responders so they can get to you fast.

 

How does Quiet Mode work?

When you turn on Quiet Mode, you can lock your phone and Sophie will continue to listen for your voice command. If you need assistance or feel unsafe, say your voice command. Sophie will then begin a countdown. If you accidentally activated Sophie, unlock your phone, open the Sophie app, and enter your PIN before the countdown ends.

Does Sophie require cellular service to work?

For Sophie to work properly, your phone must have a data connection (cellular or wifi). This connection is required so that Sophie can determine the exact location of the alarm and allow for members of our safety team to get a hold of you.

 

Does Sophie always listen?

Sophie uses on-device wake word technology to listen for your voice command. That means when you use Walk and Quiet modes, Sophie doesn’t capture or record your pre-alert audio. The audio is never transferred to our servers and is processed on the device offline. Sophie wake word technology is HIPPA and GDPR compliant.   

 

Why not just dial 911?

Most people wait to call 911 after an emergency event. Sophie is designed to be used before and during an emergency event. Sophie is the only safety device or app that is easily visible and provides public awareness of your safety coverage.

 

In addition to increasing your visibility and public protection awareness, Sophie gives you advantages that traditional 911 dispatch centers currently lack. In case of an emergency, Sophie produces bystander awareness through an audible alarm, gives you a way to request help hands-free, and provides accurate live location data to first responders.

 

Do you sell my data?

No, we do not sell your data. We care about your safety and value the trust you place in us. We use your data to help keep you and your community safe. We will disclose your information and location to public-safety or other responders as part of an active alarm to get you help, as required by law, or if you ask us to do so.

 

Is Sophie available in all 50 states?

Yes, Sophie (currently in Beta) is accessible in all 50 U.S. states.
